Response to "Little Red (Litigious) Shoes"

Today, I stumbled upon a very interesting article in the New York Times written by Jeannie Suk. Entitled "Little Red (Litigious) Shoes, Suk reported about a legal dispute between designers Christian Louboutin and Yves Saint Laurent. The dispute is about whether or not the color red could be trademarked for the bottom of a shoe. As we all know, Christian Louboutin is the master mind behind "red bottoms". And it's safe to say that almost every female celebrity owns a pair and almost every girl wish she could own a pair. They are simply a work of art. Louboutin has built an empire because of his gorgeous shoes with the red bottom and he kind of "trademarked" the red sole. Every time I spot a shoe with a red bottom, I say to myself "wow, somebody has money."

Lip Stick Kiss.

It seems like no outfit is complete without a bold statement lip these days. While lip-gloss used to be very popular, lipsticks are now taking over. A simple outfit can be transformed instantly with the right color lipstick.  Nowadays, deep colors are very trendy.  Maroon, fuchsia, plum and even black are hot sellers at stores like MAC and Sephora. While each person’s skin complexion is unique and not everyone can wear the same shade, going to a make up counter can be useful to finding the perfect hue . Lip liner can make all the difference too. If there is a shade that you are searching for but can’t seem to find, you can always blend a lipstick with a lip liner to achieve the look you are going for. Colors that are also very popular are violet, nude and cotton candy pink. Everywhere I go and every website I look at, I always see somebody wearing those colors. I personally like color blocking, so I wouldn’t play it safe and just wear something basic with a nude, violet or pink lipstick. Although there is nothing wrong with basics, having fun and exploring a wide array of colors to contrast with your lipstick would be great. For example, if you are wearing red blazer or dress, a violet or nude lipstick would look great. It can be boring to wear lipstick to match your outfit. Playing around and contrasting is always better!

Very good video

My sister shared this video with me and based on the title I knew I had to watch. This is a never ending discussion that always seems to come up in the media as well as in my every day life. I can identify with some of the things that were being discussed, especially the whole skin complexion thing. Growing up, I was the most different from my sisters. I was the youngest, the thinnest, the darkest, the one with the coarsest hair; hence I'm the only one with a perm.

What bothers me the most that this video touches upon, is the fact that many people of Afro Caribbean decent do not want to admit that they are Black, especially Dominicans. It boggles my mind that many Dominican people refuse to come to terms with the fact that they are African just like I am! Dominicans and Haitians descended from the same people! This is an argument that I always have with one of my friends who does not understand that she is Black. There is nothing wrong with being Black or loving one's culture. But you cannot love your culture until you fully understand your culture's history. And being Dominican, Puerto Rican or Cuban and saying that you are not of African decent is simply ignorant! I do not care if your skin complexion is high yellow, red bone or the like. You are of African decent. THAT 'S IT!!!

FAB.

Wale is too swaggy!

Today.

So today I learned in my Journalism 201 class that I will have to use my blog for class. I'm a tad bit nervous about that. I feel like I'm kind of mixing business with pleasure lol. Versatility at its Finest of course is for my pleasure, while class and school work is more business. It's more of what I am supposed to do. But then again, I did choose to be a journalism major so blogging goes right along with it. I just hope my professor likes the site :)
Thrifted J. Crew sweater
I can't even say how much it cost, because this and another one came up to about $3.60
:) Salvation army!

I rather not.

Why would anyone want to befriend a hoe? I know it's pretty random that I ask. But I was thinking to myself the other day...how do hoes have friends? And if hoes have friends that are not hoes themselves...then they aren't real friends. You know what I mean? I personally do not like to be affiliated with certain people. And being friends with a hoe would not look good on my part. A friend of mine has this problem. She is friends with someone who sleeps around a tad bit too much and is simply thirsty! But yet, she still hangs around her. She complains to me and amongst her other friends, but she rather not drop her completely. I don't get it. Makes no sense! You are who you hang out with, and if you hang out with a hoe, others will perceive you to be a hoe as well. And that goes for a lot of things, not just a hoe. As bad as it is, that's just the way society works.

FAB

GORGEOUS gown! Love the color!
Solange NEVER disappoints
She looks fab!
Love this bathing suit!
It reminds me of a black one that I got from H&M

Such a slut in the wedges!

So I was having a conversation with a couple friends the other day, and one of my guy friends strongly believes that females who wear wedges are sluts. I couldn't really wrap my mind around his philosophy. He associates wedges with strippers and therefore calls wedges slut shoes. I have never heard anything more bizarre in my life!! First of all, I don't really associate a certain kind of shoe with a certain kind of female. Like by looking at a shoe you can tell how easy it is for a guy to get into a girl's pants? lmao that's so silly! I feel like I would associate Mary Jane shoes as more of a slut shoe than a wedge. And even that is such a stretch. Strippers wear really high clear heel having shoes. I think my friend has simply lost his mind :)

Deans List 3

Strivers
Yesterday, I attended the Deans List 3 Strivers Row poetry slam at Le Poisson Rouge lounge in downtown manhattan. As some of you may know, the Strivers Row is made up of some very talented young poets and musicians. Favorites like Jasmine Mans, Joshua Bennett and Carvens Lissaint hit the stage and did some very heart felt and bomb ass poems! Mr. Lissaint represented for Haiti with a very emotional homage to his country and the earthquake that tore the country two years ago.
I was so excited to see these lovely people, but when I arrived at Le Poisson Rouge Lounge, I was surprised to see that there were no seats, no coat check, hundreds of people and a line around the corner. Now I understand thatThe Strivers Row has many fans, but I believe they overbooked last night. There was no place to move. I was also very disappointed because I had to stand and hold my coat for three hours. Smh I wasn't happy about that at all. A friend of mine came all the way from CT to see the show and she was very upset also!. Ugh We eventually made our way to the front but it was an overall inconvenience.
Good Poetry though :)

Revolution of a Monarch.

So as I mentioned before, while I was not blogging, I participated in SUNY Albany's African Student Association fashion show "AFRO FUSION:THE BLUEPRINT TO VOGUE". It was so much fun and I was finally able to cross that off my bucket list. The designs were HOT and the overall show was very beautiful. One of the designers for a unisex line was so cool and down to earth. He and his partner partied with us models after the fashion show.

His name is Adeoye Adegbola aka Ade and he is from Queens by way of Brooklyn. He presented an urban line of T-shirts, sweat shirts and totes known as
Revolution Of A Monarch.
With such a stylish line and a catchy name, I had to interview Ade.
CEO of Revolution of a Monarch
Ade Adegbola

What inspired you to start a clothing line?
Revolution of a Monarch is a brand that embodies what I feel has been missing in fashion, which is a
brand with substance. R.o.a.M. isn't just for one type of person from one walk of life. R.o.a.M. is a brand that is made to represent everyone, period. Our goal is to allow everyone to feel like Kings and Queens in our garments and with patience as well as support from our consumers; we promise to deliver.I've always been interested as well as inspired by fashion. I love the ability to express your feelings and emotions through your appearance. My mother raised both of my brothers and I to take pride in our presentation and so when the idea came about to start my own brand of clothing, it seemed almost natural. My family and friends are probably my biggest inspiration because they've influenced my style, which in turn is reflected in R.o.a.M. Clothing.
  • Where does the name Revolution of a Monarch come from?
  • The name Revolution of a Monarch is just that, The Revolution of a Monarch or the travels of royalty. We are all Kings and Queens, which is where the aspect of the "Monarch" in the name was created. The "Revolution" aspect of the brand came about because I want R.o.a.M. Clothing to bring about a change in fashion as well as being a breathe of fresh air with innovative designs and concepts. I wanted R.o.a.M. Clothing to be a brand that allowed you to wear your clothing everywhere and still feel comfortable. From the beach to a bar-bee-que to a bar, corner to corner office, or just to hang out with friends. R.o.a.M. is a brand that let's you be you.
  •  How did you get started with your line?
  • When i started, I had no formal training in fashion nor did I go to school to study fashion; so I started doing plenty of research on what it takes to start a clothing line independently. Once I felt comfortable enough, I had my logo designed and started with my first run of t-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies.
  •  How long has Revolution of a Monarch been established for?
  • Revolution of a Monarch Clothing has been established since 2008.
  • What designers do you look up to?
  • All! Lol. All jokes aside, I have a wide variety of designers I look up to. From Jeremy Scott to Ralph Lauren and his Polo empire, Tom Ford and his creative direction at YSL and Gucci, Marc Jacob and his impact on Louis Vuitton Coco Chanel, and Pharrell Williams overall view on fashion and style. Each brings a totally different stance on fashion and respect them for all that they've accomplished.
  •  Where can people find your clothes?
  • Online at IamRoaM.com or in select boutiques that carry our pieces; which is also listed on the R.o.a.M. Clothing website.
  • What would you like everyone to know about you and Revolution of a Monarch?

  • "It wasn't built in a day, but it ruled for years"

Swaggy.

That ain't bout nothin.

There are clothes for every occasion and shoes for every season.
In the same way, there are girls for different intentions.
By that I mean there's the girl friend, the friend with benefit, the boo thing, the hoe etc.
But the problem is:
"that dudes treat the one that they lovin' with
the same respect that they treat the one they humpin' ".
-Jay Z
Guys these days seem to have a hard time keeping their word. They say that they want respectable girls who they can bring home to their mothers, but they continue to mess with hoes. I understand why they would want to mess with hoes, because the sex is easy! But I'm a firm believer that anything worth having is worth waiting for. Who wants easy p****?  If its easy for one  to get, that means it was easy for the next guy to get it also. Thats no fun! What happened to the chase? The challenge? I was talking to my mom the other day and she was giving me the advice that she often does. "Make sure to keep your legs closed. Guys don't like easy girls. They want girls who can make they kneel down and eat roaches. " (She was exaggerating on the eating roaches part) What she was trying to say is that guys want girls who will crack the whip a little bit and lay down the law. Guys need to be trained. If they are accustomed to getting sex handed to them it will be difficult for them to transition and appreciate the reserved girl who doesn't put out easily. But the training can only be done by the reserved girl. Its up to us ladies with class to help some of these guys work harder. I believe there will always be that one girl who will be influential enough to change the ways of a "lazy" guy who is accustomed to sleeping with easy girls.
Now about the guys who don't know how to treat each type of girl differently! Its like wearing a tank top when its 20 degrees outside. You can't wine and dine the girl that you are simply having sex with. She should know her role. Wining and dining her would make her believe that she has the same respect as the good girl who that you are talking to. Guys should not even regard their hoes in public. Hoes should be kept behind clothes doors; its already embarrassing that one is messing with a hoe. A guy should not be completely rude. But he needs to set some boundaries and let that hoe know that all they are doing is having sex. If not, she will believe that she is worthy of more than just sex! ONE should never approach the hoe, the lady and the friend with benefit the same way. These are three distinct individuals and they are worthy of a unique approach.
At a certain age, guys should really grow up and invest their time and effort into someone who he can take home to his mother. If you plan on getting married once you are settled down with your career you should settle down with a girl friend by the age of 22! I hope thats not an exaggeration for some of you guys. Thats how old I plan on being when I settle down with my next boyfriend. Until then, I will be weighing my options and having my good/clean fun. I am not in high school anymore. Nor am I a child. These short term 2-3 month relationships are not an option for me. That is petty and a waste of my and the guy I'm hypothetically dating's time. It is important to get to know somebody THROUGHLY before you commit to being in a relationship. If not, then it will only end up in a break up. What good will that be?
NONE!

:)

Happy New Year!!

 I'm backkkkk!!
It has been a long four months. I have been on a hiatus from blogging due to various reasons. Within those four months, I experienced change for the good and bad, had complications with my laptop, participated in a fashion show, pulled all nighters because of school work and so much more.
There is not one legit excuse as to why I haven't blogged. I feel as though Versatility at its Finest was about to take off and become everything that I have wanted it to be, but circumstances prohibited it from doing so. Whatever it will happen when the time is right.
