What a controversial issue? Talks about the proposed Mosque at ground zero, are getting heated. Some feel as though ground zero should be the last place to have a Mosque. While supporters feel like a mosque at ground zero can effectively show the community what Islam is really about. Many ignorant people associate all middle eastern people with the 9/11/01 attacks. The Al Qaeda is the sole contributor to this horrible day, and they are the reason for all the mayhem and grief that followed the falling of the World Trade Center. However since the 9/11 incident back in 2001, prejudice and racism towards Muslim and Islamic followers has dramatically increased. In my opinion these people shouldn't be Ostracized because of their religious views and cultural garments. Each person is an individual and should be treated as such, followers of the Muslim and Islamic religion should not be detested because of a terrible incident that had nothing to do with them. I understand society's concern, and that prejudice in this situation is simply inevitable. However I believe that the state of New York should rise above, and set aside it's concerns to have an open mind towards a Mosque at ground zero.
On another note, The French Parliament has agreed that Burkas shouldn't be worn in public. The Bill will be given to the Senate this month, and is very likely to pass. Women who choose to wear a facial veil in public will risk being fined $190. Studies show that this garment is not religious, but more encouraged by the husbands of Muslim women.
