A mistake?

So yesterday I was parading around South Houston with Nathanial, my friend of many years lol. And I decided to go into David Z to look at the selection of Jeffrey Campbell shoes. Well I saw a pair of Litas and I wanted to try them on because I am interested in buying a pair. I must say they are very comfortable. Surprisingly for the height and weight they have a great cushion inside that will not leave people's feet in shambles. However, Natalie laughed at me at I walked around and looked at myself in the mirror. She thinks that the shoes are obnoxious and hideous.

I beg to differ. I mean when I first saw them, I did give them the side eye. They were new and bulky and I was a bit confused. But I do believe that they are the kind of shoe that has to grow on you. Like no one is just going to automatically accept them. Jeffrey Campbell has a way of pushing the envelope with his creations. And I respect him for that. His designs are for the bold and confident. The people who want to make a statement. And I am just that person. I believe that Litas are a statement themselves. I would pair it with a simple outfit and call it a day. They are a definite "neck breaker" because I know no matter where I go, people would always look down at my feet. Lol Natalie sent a picture of them to her father and he responded "That was a mistake, you should save your money instead of being stupid." LOL he clearly thought Natalie bought them. But she didn't because like her father, she thought that they were atrocious, a mistake so to speak lol.

I don't care what they say though, I will probably be rocking a pair of Litas in the near future. I'm not sure which color though. I want to go as simple as possible. They come in a variety of colors and prints. But I want the most neutral pair. Hmm we'll see how that goes. No mistakes will be made though lol.

Absent Father< Present Mothers

After watching tonight's episode of Basketball Wives my sister suggested that I write a post about Evelyn and her father. Well not so much about the two of them, but more of their relationship or should I say thier lack there of. Vicky stated that she "hates when girls blame their absent fathers for their unsuccessful relationships". Well Vicky and I share the same hatred on the aforementioned topic which is why I agreed to write this post. Now, I am coming from a place where my father is currently present, and has been all my life. However, I feel as though I can speak from my position. Because he isn't the most affectionate person. I didn't always hear how beautiful I am from him. I relied on my mother and the mirror for that lol. And also, I have friends who did not have their fathers present just as I have friends who have always had their fathers present and their relationship scenarios have been similar.
Thus, I am here to argue against displacing the blame on an absent father.

So Evelyn stated that the reason why she has made some of the decisions regarding men in the past was due to the fact that she didn't have her father growing up. She didn't have a male figure to tell her she was beautiful and to warn her about certain guys. And bla bla bla. So she is basically saying that she has slept with a few NBA ballers, got pregant at a young age, is combative and ghetto, slept with someone after meeting him for the first time and is now engaged for like the third time due to the fact that she didn't have a father growing up. RIIIIIGHHHHHT (sarcasm). This reminded me of English class one day when one of my peers proposed doing a research paper on the possible reasons why young women engage in premarital sex. And for a minute in that moment,  I thought about all the young women I know who are no longer virgins. Some of them grew up without a father and some of them had a father there all along.

And then there are the ones who had a father in thier home but he was still "absent". Absent doesn't necessarily mean not there, it may also mean that these fathers are just unattentive and way too busy. For example, an absent father can be one who is constantly working or one who showers his children with gifts just to make up for time that he cannot give his children. Absent fathers come in various forms and can belong to various racial groups, ethnicities, religious denominations and cultures. So at the end of the day can we blame premarital sex and early sex exploration on "absent fathers"? I think not! I mean there is a possibility that young women are attracted to people who are like thier fathers. Men who are no good  at handling their responsibilities but good at sticking thier package into women. As vulgar as that may sounds, it can be true. Just as respectable women want men like thier caring and respectable fathers, some women may simply want bad boys. I am guilty of wanting my fair share of bad boys, but that was when I was naive and immature. I want a good guy who isn't submissive. It doesn't necessarily mean that they are bad. I just want someone who doesn't show too much interest in me. Challenges are fun for everyone!!

Are Absent fathers to blame for thier daughters making bad decisions about the guys they choose to pursue? Is the sky purple? Lol the former and latter are both negatives. I don't understand why some women want to put the blame on somebody other than themselves. Because even if there is an absent father in the equation, I am confident that there is a present mother. One who will guide you and nurture you into making mature and educated choices. If there is anyone who is great at talking about the risks of premarital sex, it is a women. It is a strong mother who can warn her daughter about pregnancies and STDs. I'm not discounting that it is difficult to raise one child or many children without the father around. I know how important it is to have a father because I have mine. But I highly doubt that the decisions that I've made to stay celebate and not hoe around would be any different if I did not have my father. But then again, maybe it's because my mother is no joke. She is very active and involved in my life and the decisions that I make. It is important to have at least a great mother in your life if you do not have a father. A great mother entails being aware of your daughter's decisions and making sure she is aware of all the possibilities there are in the world for her. All the possibilities that come around when she is respectful of herself and her body. When she is knowledgeable about how men act and how they can be very selfish.

All of this important to know when you are a young lady growing up in today's society. But displacing blame and anger on a father who was never there is not the answer. One must be willing to take full responsibility for one's actions. Alcoholism is a disease that can be inherited from a parent who has the same disease. But tricking, hoeing and premarital sex should not be blamed on a mother or father. Some traits can be avoided and I firmly believe that one can steer clear of "hoeish" ways if they desire to be respected. At the end of the day, if one sleeps with one to many people and engages in activity that will have her labeled, no one will place blame on her father. They will expect her to be grown and responsible enough to own up for her actions.

Not only is this model beautiful, but these necklaces are as well.
They are the creations of a young jewelry designer named Natosha Gayle.
I'm still trying to find out where I can get her pieces.
They are AMAZING!
Looking FABULOUS just as she did at last night's BET awards.
As you can see I stole this from Theybf.com lol. This is Rhianna at a BET after party looking great.
I love the color of this dress and her hair looks good as well.

FemenEmma

So I was watching an episode of True Life where a white girl from Ann Arbor Michigan who was a victim of bullying wanted to be Made into a rapper. Due to her experiences with bullying she wanted to spread her message to others that if they had experienced bullying or currently experience bullying than they too can get over it just as she did. However, as I watched I realized that she was not completely over her experience with bullying. Emma who desired to become a rapper had been hearing that an African American Humanities class had been discussing appropriation and her ignorance towards West African culture. The teacher felt that it was necessary for Emma to study and be familiar with West African culture prior to pursuing any rap dreams. Which I feel is unnecessary for the goal that Emma had. She wasn't trying to be made into a history teacher, rather she wanted to become a rapper. Thus she studied the roots and origin of rap music. Which she was very knowledgeable about. The teacher was very abrasive and inappropriate. She was an angry black women who wanted to displace her deep rooted anger onto Emma. She seemed as though she wanted to blame centuries of bigotry and racism on one white girl who was simply trying to become a rapper. Thus she allowed Emma to come into a class and discuss her desires to become a rapper. Instead, when Emma arrived the class had prepared questions for Emma to answer. Emma was blind sided as she said and I agree. She did not sign up to go to class and answer questions she signed up to tell the class why she wanted to pursue rapping. I felt for Emma because she was misunderstood and bombarded with questions that she didn't necessarily have the answers to. Thus she was nervous and broke down into tears. I support education and enlightening the ignorant, but that was not the way to do it. As a grown women, the teacher should not have gone about it the way she did. The teacher had some underlying issues that needed to be corrected within herself. Emma did not deserve the grief and attack from her peers and her teacher. Emma did say that she did not believe there was a difference between black feminism and white feminism. I did not agree with her but she just simply needed to be educated properly. Not in the matter of a few minutes by a whole slew of angry teens and one overbearing teacher.
By the end of the episode, Emma proved her peers wrong and gave a great performance at her school's talent show. Her lyrics and flow were on point and she represented for the feminists with her lyrics. You know I love me some feminists. Me being the modern day Rosie the Riveter and all that lol.

Don't be a homie hopper. Homie hopping is never the movement. By that I mean do not go from one friend to another. Loyalty is very important. If you are talking to one guy don't try to explore options among his friends. It's not a good look for you or anybody involved. Lol Also if you are a guy and you try to pursue one girl and she rejects you, don't try your luck at one of her friends. That just makes you look like a serious douch bag. And it's like "Ok, you don't want to get with me, I'll just try one of your friends." It's not that easy kiddo. lol Do yourself a favor and keep it moving outside of the circle of friends. With that being said, don't try to get at family members either. That is DEFINITELY NOT going to work. Guys have tried to get at my sister then try to get at me and vice versa. It is very rude! I don't understand why that idea would ever be ok in a sane individual's mind! Lol I mean I understand that we are both attractive, butttt come on loves this isn't trial and error! You have to do better if you think that you are simply going to get an easy pass. This is not the Verranzano Bride there is no EZ PASS lane lol.

Happy Birthday Khloe!

Today one of my favorite reality TV stars celebrates her 27th birthday! Mrs. Khloe Kardashian-Odom! I love her and I cannot believe she is a cancer. Her vivacious personality is more of an Aquarius or Gemini. Lol but I guess there's always an exception to the rule. I love Khloe and I am her among my sisters lol. Happy Birthday girll!

Good thing Beyonce was not physically present at the BET awards. I was rather perplexed as to why she wasn't there. I was actually counting on her to pick up the show from the trenches. BUT instead she is in the UK giving measly BET shout outs lol. But I do like her new song "end of time". It's catchy, and you all know I'm not the biggest Beyonce fan. But I do give credit when credit is due. But she still should have been physically present.
I'm still confused about the whole viewers choice mis hap. I feel bad for the girl who was simply trying to get her 120 seconds of fame lol. She was misguided by the teleprompter. I was confused and I am pretty sure it wasn't her fault. BET was all kinds of messed up tonight. Hmm I don't know but they have to do better. I was underwhelmed and unimpressed. Ehhh time for me to watch the the DVR'd Mob Wives episode lol. Tootless!
Now I can't wait to see Mr. Diggy Simmons perform. I appreciate Big Sean's performance and he was ROCKING that royal blue blazor!

These are the best looks for this year's BET awards! Some ladies were wearing grey and sequins which is totally inappropriate for a summer award show! But Michelle, Tika and Kerry are looking like a breath of fresh air. I love the color! I just wish some one would have executed  my favorite summer 2011 trend, color blocking. EHH
